Sensory Inclusive

Racine Zoo is certified as a sensory inclusive institution through KultureCity. We are officially trained and trusted advocates for those with sensory needs. We are happy to make the Racine Zoo a place that is inclusive and accepting for all.

The certification, which included staff training , has better prepared the Zoo to assist guests with sensory sensitivities. These challenges are often experienced by individuals with autism, dementia, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other similar conditions.

Sensory bags, equipped with noise cancelling headphones, fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads, are available at the entrance gate to all Zoo guests who may find themselves overwhelmed by overstimulation and noise. The Zoo also has designated headphone zones and quiet area.

KultureCity is a leading nonprofit recognized for using resources to revolutionize and effect change in the community for those with sensory needs.
