Fun Facts:

  • A weasel-like animal that is a member of the mongoose family

  • Meerkats are excellent diggers and usually live in underground burrows in large groups of up to 40 individuals called a gang or a mob.

  • A mob is made up of several family groups with one dominant pair that produces the most offspring.

  • Spend most of their time grooming and playing together to keep the family as a tight unit.

  • Have thin fur and dark skin on their stomachs

  • Meerkats are able to kill and eat venomous snakes and scorpions without being hurt, as they have some immunity to venom.

  • Meerkats are able to survive without drinking water and get the moisture they need form eating roots and tubers, as well as fruit.

  • When standing, meerkats balance on a long, stiff tail
