Racine Zoo Provides Care for Rescued Reptiles

Who:
  The Racine Zoo

What: New resident zebra to go on exhibit

When: Today at 3:00 p.m.

Where: Racine Zoo campus, Charles and Jennifer Johnson Land of the Giants

Details: A one-year-old female zebra acquired from a private breeder is scheduled to go on exhibit for the first time this afternoon.  She has been going through a traditional quarantine process until today.
The foal is a Grant’s zebra, while the 7 year-old already in the collection is a Damara zebra. Both Grant’s and Damara are sub-species of zebra.  The most notable difference in the two subspecies is the existence of a gray shadow of a stripe between the dark stripes on the Damara.

The zebras share exhibit space with the black rhinoceroses. The rhinos are on exhibit from 9:00 a.m until 2:30 p.m. and the zebras on exhibit from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.   Exhibit times are subject to change as the zebras will receive additional viewing time during chillier months as they are more cold tolerant than the rhinos.

The Racine Zoo is open daily.  Current hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission fees are: Members and children under 3: FREE, children 3 – 15: $4.00, seniors $5.00 and adults $6.00.
The mission of the Racine Zoological Society is to foster an enlightening and affordable wildlife experience that improves the bond between people and nature. The Society will provide for the recreation and education of the people, the conservation of wildlife and wild places, and the advancement of science.
