Racine Zoo 2008 Summer Camp Program Descriptions

Ages 4 & 5
June 23-27:
Country Mouse, City Mouse-Discover what kinds of animals live in the country and which ones live in the city by meeting animals from Wisconsin and around the world.

July 28-August 1: It Makes Sense! – Each day use a different sense to explore the Zoo and find out how animals use their senses to survive in the wild.

Grades 1 & 2
June 23-27: Feast for the Beasts- Learn the eating habits of herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, scavengers, and decomposers of the animal world. Discover what these animals eat and how they fit into the food chain.

July 14-18: Where in the World? - Explore different habitats from all over the world and find out which animals live there. Realize what adaptations animals have to help them survive in these areas.

July 28-August 1: Animals from A to Z- Get to know animals from the beginning to the end of the alphabet, some of them at the Racine Zoo. Learn what habitat they live in, how they survive, and how we care for them here at the Zoo.

August 11-15: Animals Have Class- Learn about the different classes of animals, how they are related, what makes them similar, and what makes them different.

August 18-22: Zoolympics- The Olympic rings have a whole new meaning at the Racine Zoo. From the smallest to the largest, the slowest to the fastest, the longest and the highest, we’ll explore the fascinating facts, figures and feats of the wild world of animals. Some of these ‘Olympic’ gold medalists will visit our classroom. Let the games begin!

Grades 3-5
June 16-20: Web of Life- Investigate the role animals play in the web of life- find out who’s staying alive and who’s about to be dinner.

July 7-11: Zookeepers in Training- See what an vital job our animal care specialists do for our animals each day while spending lots of time behind-the-scenes.

July 21-25: University of the Zoo- Become an expert in observing and interpreting the behavior of our Zoo animals!

August 4-8: Zoovivor- What does it take to live in the desert? How is a rainforest animal adapted to its habitat? Learn the answers to these questions and many more as we explore the fascinating world of animal adaptations.

August 18-22: Zoolympics- The Olympic rings have a whole new meaning at the Racine Zoo. Grades 6-8
June 16-20: Animal Enrichment- Join us to learn about all the toys and treats every single animal at the Zoo receives. You will even get a chance to create some toys for our Zoo animals and your pets at home!

July 7-11: Zookeepers in Training- See what a vital job our animal care specialists do for our animals each day while spending lots of time behind-the-scenes. Get the chance to explore different jobs had by all at the Racine Zoo.

July 21-25: Biodiversity Bootcamp- Learn about some of the most endangered species in the world and what you can do to protect biodiversity.

August 4-8: Endangered Encounters- The alarm bells have sounded for the rhinos, orangutans, and tigers. But who’s listening and what is being done to save endangered species? Join us to find out more about what can be done to save a place for wildlife.
